FAQ: FAQ

HOW DO I BOOK A TATTOO?

In order to make an enquiry/booking with Silvia, you can send an email to clotoacherontia92@gmail.com. Please include as many informations as you can , in order to make the process of booking as quick and easy as possible.

When enquiring you may include the following requirements:

  • a brief description of your tattoo idea

  • a rough size in cm/inches

  •  placement for the tattoo (attaching a clear picture of the area),

  • few reference pictures

  • a rough budget.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO APPOINTMENT?

•Drink plenty of water. It is important to stay hydrated during the process.
•Make sure you have eaten at least  2 hours prior your appointment.
•Keep your skin moisturised.
•Sleep well the night before.
•Don't take any painkillers (blood thinners -> more blood -> more difficult tattooing)
•Pack snacks, a soft drink and a phone charger.
•Have a nice shower and wear a soft deodorant just before your appointment. You will avoid possible infections and also.. you don't want your artist rushing because they can't stand the smell!
•Dress comfortably and in dark colours to avoid ink/ blood stains.
•Drinking alcohol the night before your appointment is not recommended and we reserve the right to refuse any treatment if you arrive at your appointment under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
•Avoid tanning or applying any fake tan on the area to be tattooed.
•Stretch or do some light cardio beforehand as you will be in the same position for a while.
•Stay calm - do breathing exercises or whatever it takes to get you to a zen-like state.

CAN I GET TATTOOED IF I AM UNDER 18?

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to be tattooed in the UK, regardless of parental consent.
You must bring state or federal photo ID every time you come in for any tattoo, otherwise your artist won't be able to tattoo you and you will unfortunately loose your deposit.
Acceptable forms of ID include: ID card passport or Driving Licence.

CAN I GET TATTOOED IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREAST FEEDING?

No, you can't get tattooed if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
Although we practice the highest levels of infection control, it is not advisable. The risk of any sort of infection could have more serious implications under these circumstances.

HOW MUCH OF MY MEDICAL HISTORY SHOULD MY TATTOO ARTIST KNOW?

If you are not disclosing your medical conditions to your tattoo artist prior to your session, what your tattoo artist doesn't know could seriously harm you. If you have a medical condition or if you are on any kind of prescription medication, it is crucial that you disclose it to your artist before any tattoo procedure.

WHAT TO MENTION

Affected conditions include, but are not limited to: Heart condition, Diabetes, Haemophilia, HIV, Hepatitis , Severe allergies, Epilepsy, Pregnant or nursing, 6 Months or less Postpartum or Post-weaning.

PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS TO DISCLOSE BEFORE GETTING TATTOOED

• Acne Medications: if you are taking Accutane, Minomycin (or any other Tetracycline-related medication), or any other prescription drug for acne, you do not want to get tattooed. Prescription drugs for acne cause skin to be hyper-sensitive. Getting a tattoo can be disastrous and lead to severe pain and scarring.

•Antibiotics: disclose all antibiotics to your tattoo artist, and discuss whether or not it is safe to proceed. Some antibiotics make the skin hypersensitive. Some people have reported unusual skin reactions to tattoos when they were on antibiotics.

•Blood Thinners: if you are taking any kind of medication to thin your blood, you'll want to inform your tattoo artist beforehand, and probably also consult your doctor. Depending on the reason you are taking the medication, it might not be wise to get tattooed, or it might just require shorter session.

•Anti-Rejection Drugs: if you have had an organ transplant and/or are on anti-rejection medication, getting a tattoo might not be in your best interest. Consult with your doctor first to determine if your overall health is strong enough to withstand the stress of getting tattooed and if your medications may interfere with the healing process.

WHAT IF I GET TURNED AWAY?

If you have a condition like these, it is understandable to worry that disclosing it to your artist might result in being refused service. Luckily, this isn't always the case. Even when clients are HIV- positive, or have hepatitis, an artist isn't necessarily going to turn them away. They might, but in most cases, artists recognise the risk that goes along with their job and that is why they practice UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS. Honesty, though, is always the best policy. The artist will appreciate knowing so they can be on their guard, and maybe take extra precautions if necessary.

WHAT IS UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS?

Is a set of precautionary steps defined by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) used to prevent the spread of disease. This practice includes employing preventative measures like wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and extends to avoiding contact with client's body fluids.

DO YOU DO PIERCINGS?

We do not offer piercings of any kind.

DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE OR CAN I JUST WALK IN?

We are a private studio therefore we do not currently take walk-ins. Please refer to "BOOKING POLICY" question for further information on how to secure your tattoo appointment with Silvia.

COVER UPS

When submitting for a cover up please include a photo of your existing tattoo you would like to cover. If your tattoo is very faded there is a good chance it can be easily covered. Please be aware that there are limitations with coverup work. Black and gray tattoos will NOT work as a cover up in most cases. Light colours such as yellow, pink and light blue will not cover black in the long term. If you have seen cover ups done with light over dark online, we can assure you that the tattoo was just done and the blacks/darker colours will start to show through as the tattoo heals.

Sometimes a few laser sessions would be suggested before scheduling your coverup if the existing design is very dark. We prefer to use floral designs for coverups as their freedom of shape and colour lend themselves well to hiding an old, undesirable tattoo.

WILL YOU FINISH, ADD TO  OR FIX A TATTOO STARTED SOMEWHERE ELSE?

No, unfortunately we do not finish incomplete/ poorly done tattoos started by another artist but will cover it with an original, new design.

YOUR COMFORT

Our studio is a safe and welcoming place to get tattooed without judgement.

Unfortunately we have heard too many stories of people who have been made seriously uncomfortable by unwanted sexual conversations/questions, requests to remove more clothing than necessary and even touched inappropriately during tattoo sessions leaving them with not only a negative tattoo experience but loss of trust in the tattoo process altogether.

This is a disgrace to the art form, abuse of a position of power and a violation of a human beings right to feel safe.
